Telford & Wrekin Council has announced cuts to adult social care services in a move that will end up costing taxpayers more than the council saves when vital support services are removed from carers.
The announcement comes at the same time as information obtained under the Freedom of Information Act shows that the council’s T-Live vanity project made a loss of over £40k.
For many carers the support services they receive such as home help, respite, day care and sitting services are the only reason they are able to care for their loved ones at home. Without these support services many more vulnerable adults will be forced to move out of their homes and into a full time care home which will cost the council much more than the cost of the services they are cutting and as the council has already sold its own care homes, there will be no cut price alternative.
We acknowledge the difficult job the council has to balance the books in the context of cuts to its income but there is simply too much waste, too many twisted priorities and it is residents that have to suffer the consequences.
