UKIP candidate Patrick Smith came third in yesterday’s by-election for the college ward on Wellington Town Council.
Labour won the seat as expected – their candidate was the former chairman of Telford United who is widely credited with saving the club, standing in the ward that Telford United is in.
UKIP have never contested this seat before so getting over 16% of the vote on our first outing with a very small scale campaign because of efforts being focussed on the EU elections is certainly nothing to be ashamed of. Labour put a lot of time and money into this by-election, as did the “independent”.
The final results were:
- Lee Carter
- Ed Bird
- Patrick Smith
- John Latter
